MINIMALISM OR MAXIMALISM

The choice between these two probably has much to do with the biggest or most popular trends of the moment.

Throughout the decades, we can notice a strong contrast between minimalism and maximalism. They evolve and change, like everything in the fashion industry; however, there is always a choice between theese two, as well as teams.

Nowadays, we are experiencing a revival of 90s minimalism, which is characterized by suits, plain shirts, T-shirts or sweaters, neutral colors, loafers, kitten heels, jeans and keep counting.

Minimalism can be a choice in furniture, lifestyle, jewelry, relationships, and many other aspects of life. As a broad concept with countless possibilities, I wanted to contrast it only with the most visible trends today, without overanalyzing it.

When it comes to maximalism, we can clearly see the influence of the current “Portuguese style” or Nordic aesthetic, particularly Copenhagen street style, characterized by textures, vibrant colors, bold combinations, mixed and matched, accessories, and more of that.

There is always an in-between, where you take from both sides and make it your own. I’m not necessarily talking about mixing these two aesthetics exactly, but rather all their different versions. And that’s exactly where I am.

Most of the time, I don’t know how to describe my personal style, as it has changed a lot while I grow as a woman and deepen my understanding of both myself and fashion. The more you learn, the more possibilities you have.

So nowadays, I’d say I’m 70% minimalism and 30% maximalism. But as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not afraid of changing my mind, so I’ll revisit this topic in a few months to see where I stand.
